Kamloops, BC, Canada :: Danielle and I planned out this shoot for over a month; from the location, to the time of day, and even taking into account the lousy weather that we’d need to expect. I told her what I envisioned for the outcome of the shoot, and although it was a concept that didn’t have a specific purpose (and wasn’t a commercial shoot this time either), the idea of the harsh, dry and tangled landscape surrounding this lovely girl spoke to me and I just had to make this happen.
Often we hear about dark skin being tricky to photograph, and how it’s difficult to balance with light backgrounds, and I say “awe, horsefeathers!”. I mean, seriously… Just look at the natural beauty of the neutral tones, and the velvety luster of Danielle”s skin in these photos! “I’m jealous!”
Danielle made the crowns, the headpieces, and even did her own makeup as well. This girl was a trooper and a total pro… Especially when you consider how many times during the shoot we’d got attacked by all sorts of nature stuff, like thorns, branches, bugs, mud, and even some very strong and icy winds, but she stuck it out and I couldn’t be more pleased with her, and the final images.
